Our original crew of tweleve had officially dwindled to ten, and one of those backed out
of this mandatory prep hike. Nine Philmonters (three adults and six scouts) took a two-night,
two-day hike along the Pinhoti trail.

We started from the Pine Glen campground area and trekked
south to the Lower Shoal Shelter (about six miles), where we camped for the night.
All were glad to see the shelter
a bit sooner than we had projected! We had a great campfire that night, with flames ten feet
tall at times. Our hike out the next day was abrupted since the trail was closed by the
Forest Service in preparation for a prescribed burn.
